Bailout for Auto Manufacturers

I thought the govener, who is leading this, was a Republican?

All I can say about the auto industry is that maybe the US automakers should model themselves after Toyata and implement some LEAN manufacturing procedures of their own. They need to stop whining when things don’t go their way. Figure out a way to BECOME more profitable. Just don’t EXPECT to happen.

And I have to agree with Mike on most of his comments here. They are in business to make money, but are losing, why should we bail them out? Are they going to bail you out when your inspection business goes belly up? Doubt it.

Automakers not likely to get aid from bailout plan](http://www.freep.com/article/20081108/BUSINESS01/811080332/1002)

But Obama (you voted for him, not me) will attempt to get the BIG 3 included in the 700 billion bailout.

That’s bullshi+ if you ask me. Those damn rich bastards (big wigs of the auto industry) are stashing their profits somewhere and they should be investigated to determine where all their profits went to. They’ve been in business all these years and they’re crying poverty. Bullshi+.

I say let them go out of business and let the strong survive.

Obama (you voted for him, not me) is planning on taking money out of the 700 Billion bailout that was intended for banks and financial institutions only. That’ll go over great when the banks hear about their bailout funds being raided.

100 days to Save the auto industry

You’re kidding, right? He’s married to a Kennedy! Our local, county and state government at every level is controlled by the Dems and has been for many years.

Kinda like Leiberman is a Demorcrat…

On most issues he is

The war on terror excepted.

It’s all in the scoring of his voting record

Ya’ll are missing the bigger picture. I live in an area where there is a GM plant. If the plant goes under, not only do you lose about 4000 jobs from the plant, but you also lose all the jobs from the plants that support them (engine plants, apholstry, electrical componets, etc). Now your up to about 7-8k jobs lost and it rolls down hill because no one will have money to spend and then I’m out. Do I support a bailout? I have to. I thought it would be better to split the bailout money and put it into the taxpayers hands and let us save the ecomomy with our own spending, but what do I know.

Will, Arnold is still a repubublican, that he leans socially left just makes him a rare breed, called a Smart Republican.

A GM plant in Janesville, an hour drive down the interstate from my house, is shutting down before Christmas. 1200 jobs, plus those of local suppliers such as Lear are gone. But life moves on in that community.

There will always be a great deal of demand for American manufactured automobiles, there just isn’t enough for the terribly unimpressive portfolio that they produce. Toyota and others that manufacture here in America would likely pick up most of the market share dropped by their demise. Hey, they may provide the opposite of what GM does (crappy benefits, marginal pay and sweatshop practices) but $12 an hour starting pay is enough to make a sensible living off of.

Instead of begging Uncle Sam endless for money that they don’t deserve and will probably squander like the billions of investor money they burnt up over the last decade, they should simply figure out how to innovate themselves out of this mess with the $25 billion in low-interest federal loans that they secured for this exact purpose. Its time we stop this socialism crap to protect shareholders from inept corporate boards, out of fear for the thousands of workers that are already being purged from their payrolls.

"Where does the Federal government draw the line between continued bailouts with it’s increasing Socialism and letting Capitalism do what it does(pick winners and losers via the market)"

Under normal circumstances I would agree with you Michael, but these circumstances are far from normal. The big three have been attacked and hobbled by the growing socialism of this nation. From ‘CAFE’, to the huge union inspired ‘entitlements’, to the socialist health care programmes, the Big Three are victims of circumstances imposed by an unnatural market place. These burdens of excess socialism need to be removed so that the Big Three can compete on an even playing field. Sadly, Obama has just the opposite in mind.

As far as bail-outs are concerned, remember Lee Iaccoca and the Chrysler 'bail out.

Life move on, yes, but it will have to be somewhere else. This area has taken major hits since the late 70’s when the colapse of the steel mills started(who bailed them out? plants are now in China), tens of thousands of jobs have ben lost, there(at last check) are around 12,000 empty houses in the city, not forclosures, but abandoned, condemned blight that needs torn down but the city doesn’t have the money to do it. The plant is the largest employer in the area and if it goes ya might as well leave the keys on the living room floor and start over somewhere else.

I heard this will go forward, since the President Elect favors it.

Any truth to this?

Maybe The One, will just buy all of the new cars and give them to the Have-Nots! Save the companies, help the poor, gain unwavering support from his followers. Sugar Daddies Rule! Don’t ya know!

Ken, don’t come crying to me when in four years Obama doesn’t prove to be the radical Marxist, closet Muslim terrorist, gun abolitionist, black supremist, Keyan-born abortionist and whatever Repugnantcan fearmongering bulls*** labels they have duped you into believing so that you would clamor to vote for their do-nothing empty suit liberal candidate for president.

As this election proved, your reverse-Robin Hood party can no longer steal the Oval Office with the Karl Rove slim ball politics. The GOP will have to Gasp field an actual conservative in 12’ who has a resume of substance just to have a prayer. Obama will surely suck as president but as Bush and Clinton have proved, it takes more than being the other guy to unseat a lousy incumbent.

You’re already sounding like a man possessed over your worthless candidate’s defeat. Save it buddy, cause '12 will be much worse if you’re going to go down this road again with the same attitude and even less substance. Why do you take politics so personal anyways?

The BIG 3 don’t have until January 20th for him to become the official president. They need assistance yesterday and if they don’t get it quick, see ya later to the Big 3. And I don’t even feel bad for them. I’ll buy Foreign if I have to.

What pisses me off about this auto manufacturer mess is the fact that they’ve been making billions for years and now they claim to be broke. Where’s all their past profits gone too? In their damn pockets, that’s where.

May the strong survive.

Sounds like the financial mess, but they got their bailout and kept their bonuses. One Pittsburgh based bank used bailout money to buy a Cleveland based bank, to make themselves stronger, put more people on unemployment, and all with taxpayer $$$

No one has duped me into believing anything, McCain was not my candidate, we’ll see who is wrong before long, if you cannot put the puzzle together for yourself, then I don’t kid myself into believing that I can convince you otherwise. If you think I am upset about the election, you are sadly mistaken. I am actually quite pleased,(in a selfish sort of way) that what I have predicted is coming to pass. Why don’t you go study the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia 1917, then Nazi Party under Hitler prior to WWII, then CUBA under Fidel Castro, then you might understand more about how they work.
