Hello All,
By the looks of it, this conversation is old but I am going to ask the question anyways. I am looking for some advice regarding the CDX sub-flooring. I had a low point/squeeking in my sub floor that I wanted to fix so I cut out a square area of the sub-floor to investigate and repair only to find out the installed floor joist is the problem (with some loose nails) as it is warped causing the problem. I scabbed some 2x6’s to the side of the offending joist to level out with the rest of the floor and now want to re-install the missing area of sub-flooring. I went to my local Pro-Build and they sold me non-tongue and groove CDX to use. They recommended I cut the tongue portion of the existing flooring to butt up against with the new piece. Apparently they do not sell the 5/8" CDX tongue and groove i had to replace, in my ignorance I did that and have a deflection problem as the flooring seems to flex alot after screwing it down. I have the CDX on centers with the joists and have used screws.
First, any recommendations to fix and second what about the missing tongue and groove, will that be a major issue. The area is only 3’ x 2’. And is CDX in this size ok to be the only sub-flooring material under my quick lock laminate flooring?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Brian-
