I’m not going to continue this so you can insult me. I won’t stoop to your level but if you can’t understand what I’m trying to say maybe you should take a look in the mirror.

Keep posting, you’ll be a “Regular” soon!

Hello Mike Hardy. We have not met, and I did not recognize your name from before this thread. So I don’t have much to go on to make this statement but I’m going to let you know my impression of you from just today.

You seem like a guy who wants to do the absolute minimum required.

If you put as much effort into trying to help out students and new members with their questions and their troubles you might be seen by others as the kind of guy who contributes and helps out a peer. If you put as much effort into contributing your thoughts and recounting your experiences in our discussions of ways to approach a variety of situations you might understand what Marcel means when he repeatedly uses the word Active.

Reading between the lines of your posts I see frustration, not appreciation. I get a sense of entitlement, not duty. You act like a subscriber, not a member.
Are you a subscriber? Do you pay your dues to see how much value you can get for your $49/month. Do you come for the required continuing education, to scan forum posts for answers to your current questions, and to get prizes at the annual Christmas party give-aways?

Or are you a member who takes part in the sharing of ideas and experiences? Are you here to immerse yourself in all things inspection-related and be the best inspector you can be?

I could be wrong about you. Like I said, I don’t know you. I don’t remember your name from before today.

Bert all I did was ask for clarification. You’re correct, it didn’t start with frustration but it’s quickly heading that way. I have no idea why this thread has turned into attacking my character and intelligence for asking for clarification on who can vote for member of the year? What exactly do you believe I think I’m entitled too? A vote? I can promise to never vote again if that makes everyone happy. Maybe this is why people choose not to post on this forum.

I would be happy to see you post often on the forum and become friends.

So how am I coming across as entitled? You are one of the people I have tons of respect for and I’m honestly confused of how this whole thread has taken this turn. I have never even participated in the Christmas party. I’m not sure how I don’t show appreciation? I have always been polite and thankful when someone answers my questions. This whole thing is becoming way more then I ever imagined.

trust me scooter if I was trying to insult You, You would know, You are quickly becomming a hemroid here, perhaps it is time for You to go somewhere else…see ya…

Mike,
I hope my comments did not hit too hard. I do not mean to insult you.
I’ll explain my comments.
First though, I actually do wish to acknowledge that your regular visits to the forum to read through threads does show a level of participation that has been discounted by myself and others. I agree with you that doing so has made you familiar with the members making frequent and helpful content. You made a solid point there.

My statement of entitlement behavior is from the tone of your responses to Marcel when he tried several times to answer “what will be considered Active participation in the future”. It seemed to me that you badgered him a bit unnecessarily, like a lawyer trying to get a witness to trip on their words. Maybe I took your words the wrong way. Some others did as well, as you can see.

I’m going to agree with you on that point also. I don’t know the solution on that, but I want you to know that you are not alone in that opinion.

Again, I do hope to see you participate in discussions on topics and share your experiences.

Well said, Bert, and thank you.

I have been thinking of changing the

Voting Criteria to this;

Voting eligibility is limited to active forum members , defined as those who have logged at least a minimum of 12 visits over a span of three months to show some participation.
PARTICIPATION on this community forum means active posting/discourse with efforts to join in with others in discussions.

Again, objective is to prevent outside ballot stuffing.

Any comments?

From my perspective, lurking accounts for the majority of the members. I asked a member friend of mine why he doesn’t post and he said it is just not his thing.

I think read time equates to participation to a degree. I think Mike brings up some valid points. He devotes time here and the participation requirement gives the impression he is not valued.

I would consider increasing the visits or read time and omit the participation. But only if it will preserve the voting system.

Now, if we want to increase content for discussion, I think we can just ask the current active folks on here to post some of their experiences or insight. For example, Larry just posted an article on deck building. I enjoyed that.

One of the problems with requiring read time is that we cannot track it within a time parameter such as 3 months, as far as I now.

Statistics give read time as a general amount of time read but not when it happened specifically.

And are visits tracked specifically within a set time frame like the last 3 months? I think they just show a visit when someone logs in?

The only thing I see we can track is posts.

Quit hurting Mike Hardy’s feeling, don’t we have a participation award we can give him?

Where do you guys see read time? I took it out.

I was responding to Brian’s comments about read time.

Sorry, I made a mistake. I correlated read time with visits.
