firewall in condo attic

I know that a condo/townhouse requires a 5/8" drywall 1.5 hour firewall in the attic in California. Question: does it require the framing to be drywalled on each side? Can framing be exposed on one side with the drywall on the other?

You might want to post that in the California section.

In Missouri, the framing can be exposed on one side but it needs another layer of drywall to get the required rating. 5/8" drywall is rated for one hour. http://www.certainteed.com/learning-center/gypsum/?qid=124. About each area in Missouri, seems to see firewalls different though.
