Hello Everyone, I see corrosion on the burners of fairly new Goodman furnaces (3-7 years old) very often, Does anyone else report these too, What could be the reason just curious. Thank you for your input.
I do not see oxidization. Nothing wrong with that burner assembly.
I don’t see anything in your picture but have seen minor rust/corrosion around the burner openings many times on all brands of gas furnaces. I consider it to be normal and don’t comment.
Specifically, what maintenance would prevent this?
I’m not a HVAC Tech, so I have no experience in this diagnoses… but as a retired Mechanic, It seems to me there is an imbalance in the air/fuel (ratio) injection system… thus my recommendation for Service and Repair by a qualified HVAC Tech.
It is common to see this in the direction of the ignitor. I’d like to see all of them though and where the flame sensor is. The venturi body could be slightly cocked where it’s sitting too, but as long as it fires down the hole, this isn’t a problem. The furnace will be long dead before that would be an actionable problem.
While I am not familiar with that furnace, I did HVAC work many years ago, predominantly boilers though.
What exactly are you putting in your report? How do you justify reporting this to your clients or listing agent?
You do realize that metal will change in color after it’s been heated.
What corrosion are you talking about?
Caused by
I have seen this before in a Goodman that was in the last house I owned. One injector was cocked and would unevenly heat the tube, which caused it to rust out on one side. Eventually, after 10 years, the burn box cracked and rusted through right in that area. Long story short, the unit had to be replaced.
Keep in mind that Goodman is the bottom of the barrel cheepo that is produced by Maytag. They don’t typically last nearly as long as other brands anyway…
In your case, I would just recommend the unit be serviced and pass the liability on to an HVAC company…
