I have personally removed a lot of the fully covered top ones i.e. Gutter Helmet, Leaf Gaurd because the bees love to build their nest inside of them, nice and dry for them until they make their nests too big and plug up the gutter.
A lot of those companies claim no icicles either but I have heard quite the contrary.
I would advise none at all.
