Getting started now…

As a building inspector for multiple jurisdictions, it is a good time to bring up deficiencies to the homeowner on items in the attic or throughout the home when doing other inspections. Not typically related to this type of home inspection, but none the less I inform of what I find.

Let’s insulate!

Soffit vents appeared to be obstructed by insulation. Soffit vents are designed to vent hot air through the attic to the ridge vent or gable vent. When these vents are obstructed, it can cause inadequate air flow that can cause mold or lessen the lifespan of roofing shingle. Recommend calling a qualified contractor for repair.

Not sure if I posted this in the right thread. Taking the online course…

Hi, Luis. I see that you’ve completed the “25 Standards” course with an almost perfect final exam. Good job. To become a certified home inspector, please complete the certification requirements on Step #2 at http://www.nachi.org/certification.htm. I see you’re from NJ, so you’ll want to visit How to Become a Certified Home Inspector in New Jersey - InterNACHI® and take advantage of everything specific to NJ.

Each course will have a “Share an Image” requirement. For this course, visit InterNACHI® - International Association of Certified Home Inspectors for a short how-to video.

This utility cabinet for the electrical panel is poorly insulated. The fiberglass batt insulation is compressed and in some cases missing from being effective. Temperature difference from inside the closed cabinet to inside basement, minimum 5 degrees.

Hello my precisely vague friends,
When I turned on the 2nd floor bathroom exhaust fan it made a whirling sound like a helicopter. It was the effect of the water sloshing in the vent tube about 15 feet away

. After investigating further I discovered that an un-insulated bathroom exhaust vent pipe in the attic during winter that had condensated so heavily water blockage formed. This section must have weighed at least 20 lbs. This section could have caused big problems for the drywall ceiling below if it had gone un-noticed for too long.
