Big zappers are used to lure insects and to electrocute them. Every bug zapper is made up of the same basic components. The outside is a plastic or metal and is usually shaped like a cylinder. There is a light that attracts the insect, usually neon or ultraviolet, the wire mesh that electrocutes, and a transformer.
In the attached picture, you can see the flashing from the second floor wall to the first floor roof above our back porch. The short roof here has a gutter attached prior to the screened enclosure over the pool. The shingles and facia in this area have suffered damage from age, sun, and moisture issues. In the near future, I will be replacing the facia boards, and the shingles. This would be a notable issue where moisture intrusion and shingle damage could be mentioned.
Relating to my other assignment, the image “Headwall Flashing” shows the proper headwall to roof flashin ? I will be looking for when I reshingle the short roof over the backporch. The counter flashing should be under the stucco and lapped over the flashing, which, should be under the shingles. Due to the gutter above this small roof, I will use a double layer of underlayment because we have had issues with glogged gutters spilling over onto this roof.
This is a photo of a hail damaged clay tile roof. The roof is in need of replacement due to a devastating hail storm. Immediate removal of the debris and damaged tiles is recommended and a thorough inspection of the decking by a qualified roofing contractor.
Just finished the article on depreciation write off of a commercial property. I found this information to be very helpful and insightful. Taking depreciation as a deduction over a 39 year period for a commercial property is an incredible tool to limit taxation.
In the image provided, there is a gaping hole clearly visible toward the edge of the roof slope. This gives water the opportunity to find its way into the void and cause further destruction to housing components. The appropriate installation would have been to have step flashing along the sidewall and then a kick out flashing at the very edge to direct water away from the wall edge where the hole was.
It is imperative to be careful when inspecting tile roofs. The best way to minimize roofing damage from an inspection is to use a ladder and binoculars to visual look for any anomalies or damages. If an inspector wants to identify the manufacturer for tiles he should use two wooden wedges to loosen and slide a tile out.
This is a picture of an asphalt roofing system. After watching these videos and finishing other classes on roofing. Its becoming real to me that, the presence of biological materials are harmful. In this case leaves are piled up in the gutter, which is presumed to be uneventful yet could cause greater damage later.
After reading the article Aging in Place, Im made aware of the huge list of things that can be modified in a home to make it compatible for someone older to live out there days without leaving there house. Maybe by 2020 we will see large groups of contractors specializing in this field.
Flat concrete tile roof. The tiles are interlocking and installed correctly. The nice tight fitting will allow good water sheding. Tiles are older and maybe original to the home, evidence of this can be seen in the mold/mildew on the edges indicating moisture absorbtion through the intire depth of the tile. Craking can be seen in the mortar, this will allow water intrusion into the mortar and may increase the deterioration of the mortar.
I chose to read “Mastering Roof Inspections: Tile Roofs Part 1”. The information in the article was already covered in this corse so really no new information was given. Although, I’m continuing to read the remainder of the series, because being in south Florida tile roofs are extremely popular and I will encounter them a lot.
In the photo illustrated above we have a tile roof which is in good condition with one layer of tiles and underlayment tile should overhang about 1/2 inch to help with runoff
In south Florida we dont have many clay roofs more metal roofing and slate.
In the following section
We learned about tile slate and concrete tiles which have a few different types of properties and a few different installation methods and techniques. We learned about the things to look for when inspecting these roof types
This picture shows a clay tile roof installed on the dwelling. The tiles are an interlocking, low-profile, clay tile. This home is brand new construction, and as such there are no visible defects on this tile roof. From ground level, the roof appears in very good shape and to have been constructed with proper methods.
“Mastering Roof Inspections : Tile Roofs, Part 1” - Roofing tiles are typically made of either clay or concrete today, but were also made from fiber cement in the past. The use of the fiber cement tiles has generally stopped due to bans on the fiber material, asbestos, that was commonly used. Tiles also come in a number of different styles and profiles. Tiles can be low, medium or high profile, and can be interlocking, overlapping, or butt up against each other. Concrete and clay tiles are generally highly resistant to fire, hail, and wind when properly installed.
The picture shows batons at the roof sheathing. Each baton holds a row of tiles. Replacing / repairing tiles on the batons relies on the secure points on the tile and the style. This picture shows the repairs which could have come from several different reasons.
Several (4) styles of tiles exist within the Florida requirements. I have learned while training, that foot displacement is a factor on the tiles when you do a “walked on” roof inspection. It is the responsibility of the inspector to determine the roof style and then make a proficient decision as to the next step.
I am writing my essay about a photo of an attic inspection. Inspector should always walk on trusses and be carful not to mess with insulation. When inspecting the attic you can tell a lot about the roofs condition. The inspector is able to see if there is any moisture intrusion by looking at the sheathing and trusses.
I learned a lot about clay tiles I certainly never knew before. I realized how fragile they could be but never realized how long they last. Its incredible that can last more than fifty years! It may be more costly but definitely worth buying to have a healthy roof.
I chose to write about a very interesting article calle "Bed Bugs: Inspecting for the New “House Herpes”. Im sure we have all heard the expression, “sleep tight, dont let the bed bugs bite”! Unfortunately bed bugs are not an urban myth. Bed bugs are small rust-colored parasites that feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. Including humans.
