Just a quick question for a heating system

Hello Folks, I have a question about a gas furnace I inspected today.
The blower kicks in before ignition and stays on during the ignition process, Is this issue related to the thermostat wiring or a furnace component could have gone bad?

Are you sure you’re not mistaking the blower for the duct booster fan? Sometimes they can be loud enough to sound like the blower.

If it is indeed the blower, I would call it out as improper sequencing and recommend repairs by a qualified HVAC tech.

Hello Kevin,
Thank you for replying
It was the blower fan, Here’s a quick video for reference

You’re right, and it’s hard to pin-point the exact reason why it’s out of sequence without troubleshooting the unit.

Thank you Kevin, Appreciate your help

That is not a blower motor. It’s an inducer motor. Two completely different functions.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but it would be good to research the function and importance of the inducer motor.

I think it’s the blower Jeff, at the very begining of the video he holds the camera down near the blower motor for about 2 seconds, and it sounds to me like it’s running.

Probably a defective temperature sensor. That sensor doesn’t turn the blower on until the air temperature warms up to prevent blowing cold air.

Just checking, are you sure the homeowner didn’t set the thermostat “fan” to on and run all the time instead of “auto” to turn on when the heat/cooling is called for?

Even if it’s on it shouldn’t be running during the ignition

I’m fairly certain it would. I will have to check for sure, but I can’t say I’ve ever noticed a blower fan set to “on” turn off automatically for the ignition cycle.

If the fan switch is on, the fan will run continuously even through the ignition cycle. I switch it to “on” to verify that the fan works independently from heating/cooling and switch it to “auto”” so I can verify the sequence of operation of the furnace.

It ran during the ignition on both auto & ON.

Then the thermostat is wired wrong, the thermostat is bad, or the fan relay on the control board is stuck closed. Definitely refer it out to an HVAC technician or mechanical contractor.

Good post, Jeff.
What does furnace inducer motor do?

What is a Furnace Inducer Motor? – Dial One Sonshine

The inducer motor stays on and blows air the whole time the furnace is on, bringing in an oxygen flow, and overall improving the air quality inside the system.
