Microwave clearance from stovetop

The cabinets in the two most recent pictures were installed with a stove hood in mind, not a microwave. Even when proper planning has taken place initially a replacement microwave or stove may screw up the whole arrangement.

Best oven for a microwave installation has ALL the controls in front. 16 inches to the bottom of the microwave is probably a MINIMUM workable spacing.

I agree.

I also will add that many of the newest homes I’m inspecting only have a hood, some of which have nice fancy hoods.

The microwave is either a countertop or in a cabinet to the side with the oven below.

The first thing we did when we bought in Florida was to remove the microwave over the stove anyway.

Ask any 5 foot tall woman how happy she is removing boiling materials from a head height microwave over a cooktop with steaming foods on it.

This is superior to that OP image…

My mind immediately goes to “flipper” when I see this. I’ve never understood why they all seem to do it but they do! Anything taller than a frying pan and you’re SOL.

UPDATE:… 11.75 inches!

.
Interesting that Whirlpool doesn’t just come out and specify the clearance necessary… ya gotta do the math… which works out to needing 12.75 inches minimum!
.

Deal killer.

Wrong stove for that application. Stove should have controls on front edge for obvious safety reasons. Those cabinets were installed for a range hood ONLY!
