Oil and Gas venting

Richard

I’m sorry if I misled you with Canadian codes,I did not intentionally want to confuse you.I would listen to Jeff he is providing the IRC code for you.

Mario

Where did you come up with that?

#2 heating oil produces 135,000 BTUs per gallon.
Propane gas produces 91,600 BTUs per gallon. I forgot what natural gas is off the top of my head but it’s even lower than that.

If I feed 1 gallon of fuel per minute through a furnace, which one produces the most heat?

David

Natural gas 1000 BTU/cubic foot. The gas consuption of an appliance is rated on an hourly basis,in terms of input rate in BTU per hour.

You are right!

Jeff:

Do you know where I can get a copy of the code: IRC G2427.5.6.2 (503.5.7.2) ? The one you mentioned.

Sure I do. . .

Here’s another question along these lines.
If you replace an oiled fired heating system with a gas unit in an old chimney that has no flue, just brick, does it need a liner?

Peter

In Canada the answer is YES. But we will see what fellow US. inspectors say about U.S. codes.

I would have one in Canada or the U.S. Code or no code.

Mario; I agree and do most heating contractors in my area.
I always thought that it was because the exhaust from gas was hotter than oil, therefore requiring a liner/new flue.
