If there is someone who’s maybe retired or near retired, or otherwise been a long-time inspector who is familiar with California standards (Sorry, Jonas!), who might be interested in reviewing reports for quality assurance. Essentially, an hour or two a day working from home.
California-based preferred. Or used to inspect in California.
An interNACHI membership number with the first two numbers in the teens or lower, and proof of being a long-time inspector, is required.
Yes and no. Earthquake issues are the main concern (gas meters water heaters, crawlspaces).
Some years ago I was part of a group and we were going to make training videos for all systems and then share them among our companies. But it broke down because there were so many regional differences. Even if the standards were the same, the application of the standards to regional differences became too much to over comes. What passes for perfectly good plumbing in Minnesota vs California we found to be quite different.
And even within the greater Los Angeles area, I see regional differences in how houses were built and what to be looking for depending on the exact city. (LA County has 88 cities, and we do a fair amount of volume in Ventura county as well).
Maybe we could get away with someone in a near by state, by if someones used to the Texas SOP or doing inspections in Florida, or Chicago, it would be a hot mess of mistakes.
I think it is a good idea to have an outside party, as you are trying to set up, to perform the reviews. Not only does it lighten your load but also lends credence to the review process.
There are plenty of multi-Inspector firms here in Texas that should be doing that. Reading their reports, sample and actual, from different Inspectors in their employ really makes a person wonder if they perform any QC on them at all and if they even train their Inspectors in their ways.
Now that you brought it up (looking for someone for QC) have you considered this as another revenue stream? Because it is a PT gig done from the comfort of the home (in their underwear virtually) it would be an interesting nationwide concept. Not only a possible good revenue stream but also help boost the image of the industry as a whole.
