3) purpose of the wire
My pool motor bond wire got disconnected!
pool motor bond

pool motor bond connection

Bonding is the process by which the electrical and metallic components of the pool are joined together with a wire to form a non-resistive path between the components. The goal of bonding is to connect, contain and prevent the transmission of any harmful electrical voltage to pool equipment, people and pets.

Bonding connects the pool’ s electrical and non-electrical metal components into a network that contains the electricity. The low impedance path back to the power source allows the harmful current to flow and trip the breaker at the panel.

Without a bonding system in place, you might conduct stray electrical current when touching the metal pool rail or pool water.

**Please be sure to take all measures necessary when inspecting the electrical system. A little boy was electrocuted in the pool shortly after moving in the home, after a home inspection & repairs allegedly failed.

Thanks, Larry!

I only asked because the previous answer given is incorrect.

Why is that bond wire insulated? Shouldn’t it be a bare wire?

It can be bare or insulated but it must be solid, #8 AWG or larger. The technical term for that wire is a Equipotential Bonding Conductor.

Absolutely correct sir!
There will be a quiz in the morning so learn it now. :cowboy_hat_face:

Marc,

New to this game, who are eligible members before it opens to all members? I looked but I didn’t find where this is specified.

Thanks,

Hi Chase welcome.
Wins are limited to three times annually to give all a fair chance.
After 48 hours if no winner, everyone, including members that have won more than three times are eligible.
Here’s the link for our chapter rules.

I think so…? I’m a paying member if that’s what you mean. I joined several months ago. I haven’t done all CPI requirements yet though.

All members are eligible.
I figured you were, but here’s another example of incompetency.
