Although the theory sounds good many commercial toasters like those in restaurants and commercial kitchens are grounded with a 3-wire cord and a NEMA 5-15 plug (or 6-20 plug for 208 volt units). It is true that homeowner toasters do typically have 2-wire cords but it is untrue that all toasters are ungrounded.
When I was looking into this after Marc posted the answers, I came across something that said modern toasters have the elements coated in ceramic to help prevent electrical shock. Any input or info on that?

It’s possible. It seems like a simple way to keep someone from potentially getting hurt by inserting a metal object into a toaster but I’ve read that coatings may present other problems with chemicals leeching into the food.
