I have used E-Prem monitors for years and feel the system works well. You set two canisters and the systems works. It is very profitable.
Air-Chek kits have red ones that are for professionals only. They cannot be purchased at any store. Since I purchase them in bulk, they cost $9 each. It costs $33 to overnight them to North Carolina, with next day results. EPA requires me to use two kits. I still make a nice profit. These kits are the largest used radon test kits in the world, used by schools, commercial buildings, hotels, etc. They are 48 hour minimum kits, and the ones purchased at stores take longer. Can you imagine the cost you would have in equipment if you had to test a school building? The results come back from a lab, with no extra fee, further reducing your liability from having a machine print out your results. Total cost of each test is $51. So, figure your cost of equipment, calibration, shipping, etc. To each his own.
Stanley …
The 1027 w/tax should sell for about $900 +/-.
1st year calibration included.
10 radon tests at low end $100 to mid range $125 means its paid for. After the 1st year you will spend about $150 p/yr for calibration if you do it annually.
I always keep a few canisters AND have recently added Air Check for ghetto or vacant houses in bum areas, etc where I don’t wanta leave an expensive monitor.
I’ve tested all 3 side by side in my own house and have no problem with accuracy with any of them. Sometimes the mail back with non-electronic devices can be an issue in a RE transaction (the seller forgot about your pick-up and locked storm door and lok-box is between storm and house door, so the pick-up is now backed up another day; OR REA forgets time of pick-up and you’re 30 miles north of town in drive with no REA and your next job is on the far south side of town - 27 miles away and you can’t raise them by phone … can’t wait … and have someplace else to go after next job, SO can’t come back till next day; OR you miss a drop-off at mail place OR Fed-Exp; OR its a holiday weekend AND pick-up is delayed, etc, etc).
That’s the only issue I have with non-electronics.
thanks guys I really do appreciate all your feedback.
if I get one from sun nuclear its.
$845 + tax + 45 for a usb cord+shipping and they have a $200 fee for one year of maintenance, calibration and phone support
oh then a 45 dollar case…so you end up spending roughly $1,225 right off the bat…
or step up to the next model for around 1300
im thinking if I bite the bullet and purchase one of these then even if it takes a year for it to pay for itself at least I have it and wont be at the mercy of someone else…and I wont be bound by a lease.

Radalink is a month to month lease and they pay for shipping repairs and calibration.
How much $$$?
yes I looked into them… the thing is …I just don’t have to many calls for radon tests…so to start out paying a monthly lease could turn into a money pit for me. im in a rural area so most of my Inspections are 50 up to 100 miles away.
not going to drive those distances for a radon test. having the ability to test in my local area is more appealing. on a side note… I have talked with testers in the areas I have been inspecting and I can use them when needed.
Gary, I agree with you. I’ve been using Air Chek since 1993. I could not imagine having enough machines to have 4-8 tests going on at any given time. I, too, buy in bulk, at $6.60 per test kit in quantities of 100. Fortunately, we are inside UPS next day ground delivery at approximately $9.50 per shipment. We just increased prices to $175 stand alone test and $150 with inspection to cover the return trip for test retrieval.
I believe 1 machine is $160 a month and the more you have the cheaper it gets.
I did the math you can do a maximum of 10 tests a month with one machine assuming a 30 day average month and great planning with no machine downtime. That works out to be $16 a test and you get instant preliminary results, then they review the data you send to them via your phone or laptop making sure the machine has not been tampered with and send you a 4 page report with your logos on it to forward to your client within a few hours.
I am going to start with Air chek like Gary and as I determine the demand in my area I will bring one of these machines in the the rotation and use the Air Chek as a back up with my machine is in use.
If you have a demand for them the machines are definitely the cheaper way to go especially since you don’t need to pay anything for calibration or repairs.
Very confusing statement.
Inside UPS next day ground delivery? Ground delivery is usually 3-5 business days.
He is very close to the lab.
I pay over $20 to the same lab for overnight service.
That difference in price adds up.
yes it does
Thomas I took your advise and called them.
Just ordered the 1027 $910 total to my house. includes : case, shipping , no tax, and a calibration within one year… good deal!!
We have 8 Radstars. 7 RS 00 and we rent an RS800. They go out in rotation (on average) about 12 times per week. Great service and the accuracy is pound for pound, best in the market.
I have 5 rs300.s like them too. I’ll likely buy a 6th soon, all five have been our multiple times.
