I simply expalin that a childs head can go through spacings that are too large and they seem to get it at that point.
I recommend the address the spacing issue to remove the hazard.
What they do with the info is their business.

Unless you are an AHJ, everything you call out in a report is a “recommended upgrade”.

I like according to standards today. I have never had a problem with people understanding this. If they want to know the code I point them to the AHJ.
