While planning my future continuing education for the State of Ohio, I was looking over the NACHI “Ohio Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice Course”.
What I noticed is the Class has outdated Ohio Canon of Ethics and Ohio Standards of Practice.
I emailed Ben and he has forward it to the Education Team.
For those that did not know, Ohio revised the Canon of Ethics and Standards of Practice back in June 2024.
If you have not reviewed them, I suggest you do.
Although most of the changes are minor and deal with verbiage, there are some significant changes which include but are not limited to the below.
The revised Canon of Ethics, Article 4, Reports and Contractual Agreements has been changed which can cause problems for those who did not change their agreements or use agreements from third parties (insurance companies State Specific Agreements).
The revised Standards of Practice, Section (V)(4) deals with giving the approximate age of the heating system.
Section (X)(3) deals with giving the approximate age of the cooling system.
Section (Z)(6) now calls for the inspection of the refrigerator.
I have my renewal ready to mail in but have to wait until it’s within 90 days of my existing expiring.
How did you find out about the revisions? Did the state mail something to you? I know that I never received any notice from them. An email or actual mailing would have been nice.
I scanned over some of the attachments but don’t have time right now to look at everything, I did notice a couple of things that stood out that I will address later.
I agree with Dave, we should have received an email from the state informing us of changes to either the SOP or COE. I don’t recall receiving anything of any changes.
Dave,
Last June I was tweaking my agreement and went to check the SOP and COE, that’s when I noticed the changes.
I thought I missed an email or USPS, and put it out of my mind, until I looked at the course today.
(Not an Ohioan, but…)
Every January I review ALL my Documents and guiding directives/Contracts/SOP’s/COE’s/etc. (regardless I am not in a Licensed State). Yes, this includes InterNachi and all other Organizations I have affiliations with.
Most changes to State Laws go into effect on January 1st, (some on July 1st and other dates).
As January is typically a slowdown month, I dedicate it to getting office work done and updated.
Since some of youse seem ‘shocked’ with the OP’s post… perhaps you need to stop being Hobbyists and start acting as a professional business / businessman.
Just sayin’!
