Sealing vinyl siding

I rarely see vinyl siding in my area so I am concerned. But, the question is, should I make a big stink out of the tops of the trim not being capped? I have mixed feelings on this topic and would appreciate any definitive answers or critiques. My thought is, that if there is original siding that has been covered with vinyl siding, then the siding is still sealed(?). If anything, it would be good to have them capped to deter pest entry. If water were to enter the cap area, water would drain properly out the bottom and onto the shingles, so no big deal, right?

No big or small stink needed.

I would just report what you see and make a recommendation and why.

Here’s a start, then add the water intrusion.

Often not so because you cannot see what is behind the vinyl siding.

Thank you Larry. I will create a dialog and post it here when complete.

I would call it out. The purpose of the siding and trim is to shed water, not collect it in Styrofoam and hold it next to the home.

No need for a lengthy narrative here.

You mentioned consequence. Who knows exactly? Everything is covered up. IMO, pest and water intrusion are the concerns.
