Scenario: While performing an inspection I noticed several fire alarms were not functioning and exposed electrical wiring under the kitchen sink. When I discovered these items immediately the customer asked if I had any extra 9 V batteries handy with me and if so can I replace the batteries and pass it on the inspection. He also asked if it would be possible to overlook the exposed electrical wires under the sink and he would have an electrician come in and repair it before the house was sold. I informed the customer that I am required to document the findings and report them as safety concerns, and recommend they were be repaired by the appropriate trades. I further explained to him that expose wiring under the sink was especially dangerous because of the potential for water to come in contact with the exposed wiring and potential causing an electrical shock to an individual accessing the lower cabinet.
