Should we do "Certified Master Inspector" (CMI)?

2. -Have completed the Ethics Obstacle Course http://www.nachi.org/ethicsobstaclecourse.htm

And

3. -Have taken the Standards of Practice Quiz http://www.nachi.org/sopquiz.htm

And

4. -Are a member in NACHI

And any 2 of the following:

5.

-Have attended at least one NACHI Chapter meeting in the past year.

-Have attended a formal home inspection-related course in the past 5 years.

-Been in business for at least 2 years.

-Sit on a NACHI committee or advisory board.

-Carry E&O insurance.

-Licensed/certified in a related field (electrician, PE, radon, etc.)

-Teach a home inspection course.

-Performed over 1000 inspections.

-Been a NACHI member for more than 1 year.

Note: You can fulfill requirement 5 by haveing any two of the above.

We don't want a derogatory newbie category like "associate" or "candidate" because many agents blacklist "associates" and "candidates" but perhaps the CMI designation would be nice. I could really make a lot of hay for us with this CMI thing.

Thoughts?

Gerry:

Because it would be the Gerry Beaumont and Jerry Peck designation.

Gerry B and Jerry P sounds like a puppet show ![icon_lol.gif](upload://zEgbBCXRskkCTwEux7Bi20ZySza.gif)

We have the Federal Trademark to “Certified Master Inspector” so no one outside of NACHI could use the designation.

I just know I could take away a lot of market for our members with this.

In all serious Nick, all members can get 2 of those points, if we make it 3 if someone is realy interested in the CMI designation then all they have to do is get involved in one of our committees and start helping other members, the organisation and themselves.

Where is the down-side to that ???

This new designation would encourage member to become more involved in both NACHI and the HI profession.

I agree with Mike and Gerry. Will the new photo membershio cards be GOLD for this? (just kidding). Or maybe solid WHITE for us Canadian inspectors to represent the snow up here?

I’ll agree with Gerry, Well almost agree.

I'll agree with the three in part five, but the -licensed/certified in radon, pest or whatever shouldn't count as one of the three.

My state license was just issued last week.

As of the Atlanta meeting Feb. 21st, I'd qualify under these standards.

That alone should indicate that the standards need to be a little tougher... ![icon_confused.gif](upload://qv5zppiN69qCk2Y6JzaFYhrff8S.gif)

Larry:

Why don't you like the licensed/certified in a related field choice?

John:

Only a little less than 1/2 of our members and 1/4th of all inspectors can get thru requirement #1. Which of #5 do you have?

Nick,

Completed 40-hour course in December.

As of the Atlanta meeting which I plan to attend, my E&O should be in place... so there's 3. I've also offered to help on one of the committees.

Don't get me wrong, I'd carry the NACHI CMI stamp proudly...

OK I’ll agree with the related field issue, but how about we also mandate our own higher level of testing, we need this in so many areas that it only makes sense

Nick, one of the reasons was to make the standards a little higher by cutting one out. If people are doing these they need to be licensed anyway. Another reason would be the licence don’t make a good inspector.

PS: After everybody chimes in we will have the best CMI designation possible ![icon_smile.gif](upload://b6iczyK1ETUUqRUc4PAkX83GF2O.gif)

I could agree with that

By doing this you will be placing new inspectors in a lower cast. The thing that has made NACHI great has been putting all members on a level playing field.

How will this bring in more market share and to whom?
