Slate roof question

I need some help. I don’t inspect slate roofs often enough but I think there are two areas that need some attention. It is from a 1929 home, and the slate has a rusting stain on them from the nails. Is this a sign of maintenance needed or is ok. I would add photos but cant seem to figure how.

Thank you for your input.

Yes this is a sign of fastener failure. Recommend further evaluation from a licensed roofing contractor…

Email me the pictures and I can post for you. dave@hshinspections.net.

The type of slate is important, some slates can have up to a 150+ year life expectancy while others are <50. Typically the fasteners, penetrations fail before the slates.

Yep, but use “qualified”. There are licensed roofers out there who aren’t familiar with slate.
