Correct. Glass is opaque at 5um therefor you need a shortwave imager to see through it and take temperature readings. This is how I was able to image the filament of a light bulb.

Thanks for explaining how digital cameras can photograph in the infrared specrum. The notion regarding the removal of infrared filtering has been around for years, and was even mentioned last year on an episode of a popular TV show.
The importance of your discussion was that it provided information on the difference between radiated and reflected light.
