I appreciate your help with meaningful comments…interesting business we’re in. Thanks everyone! Paul
Barry,
I clicked on the link that you provided and I read your articles from start to finish.
It was well thought out and to the point. I would recommend that all of the Home inspectors reading this take the time to go over this article. There is some very useful information here.
However….As a former ADA Code Compliance Inspector for the Federal government I disagree that ALL code compliance inspectors are “lazy and or incompetent”.
The ICC code compliant phase inspection checklists as well as the ones that I compiled over the years are very thorough and encompass all phases of construction from start to finish.
So the bottom line is….I really enjoyed your article and I think that all of the newer less experienced inspectors will really enjoy it as much as someone like me who has been in This industry since 1972. {There is something there for everyone.}
Keep up the good work… Regards Frank:D
Frank, you may be the exception…i’ll re-read but don’t think i said or painted ALL with the same “lazy and or incompetent” brush
i & others in this state routinely write up what code inspectors either ignore or intentionally overlook for whatever the incentive may be
i actually have request for interpretation (RFI) emails from more than a few chief building officials (CBO) that are in direct conflict with manufacture installation instructions
some of the corporate & custom housing stock is or will be rotted before the 10 year structural warranty has expired
the builder has moved on & when brought to their attention fight consumers tooth & nail hoping like most they’ll get worn down, make repairs on their own out of desperation and just go away
planned obsolescence appears to be the new american way
Thanks for all your meaningful comments. Interesting business we’re in. Paul
