My first car didn’t cost that much (and 2nd, 3rd, 4th maybe my 6th)!

Not really, I wasn’t in the market for a car then. I was a few years later and bought the Model 18, the first flathead V8 engine! What a car!!

Us Old Dudes knew our cars didn’t we!

Didn’t this guy just ask for suggestions for crawler features and functions? And a couple of days later, shazaam, here it is.
Hey, good luck to him, if he has made a better crawler. I am intrigued by them, but there is no way I can justify that cost in my market.
How does it inspect the furnace? Does it probe wood or probe into the dirt? How does it scrape at the rust on a steel column? Just wondering. Another dumb question…can it clean the camera lens? I sometimes come out of a crawlspace looking like Indiana Jones.

He’s been around for a couple of years slingin’ crawlers.

These products are neat and I find them extremely useful. About 30% of inspection I do have crawlspaces and 95% of those have less than 12” of headroom. We don’t have vapor barriers and they’re all extremely neglected. If not for this I’d just stick my camera in and snap what photos I could. While I don’t charge more for using it anymore I find it well worth the cost. Kind of like a good thermal or other quality tools. The biggest downside I have is spending that much money and I’ve had to send mine back 4 times now for firmware issues. At least they’ve paid for shipping and taken care of it as best as possible each time. Termites are an issue here so it would be nice to probe wood or flip over boards on the ground, but I’ve been getting better at flipping small boards, cardboard, etc with the crawler (pushing the wheel against it and twisting) and viewing them. Cobwebs that build up on the camera can usually be cleaned by panning up and down or you just pan down before you get into them. You learn tricks pretty quick. Like you said though, the usefulness will definitely depend on the market.

Bob, that is very useful insight for us so thank you for the reply!

I will be the first to admit that these crawlers don’t live a great life going into nasty crawlspaces all the time and they do in fact break and have issues, that can only be minimized with design which we are constantly improving on.

This is why every crawler comes with an industry leading warranty, and we have an amazing support team here in Laramie WY. We answer the phone when you call and will fix any crawler, no matter when you got it from us.

Is that a Siyi controller system?

@bwagstaff Can the Wombat take still photos, and if so, can it put a time and date stamp on them?

Ryan, the Wombat can record video and take photos at the same time.

If you update the time within the controller manually or by connecting it to WiFi once, then the time and date is stored in the metadata of all the photos and videos.

I need the time and date actually on the photos, not just in the metadata. Is that something that can be addressed, or is that pretty much impossible?

If they are using the Siyi system, the date/time can be on the images. But i5 needs to be configured. The manual is online, but I didn’t go through the whole thing. The search engine AI digest states it is possible.

Ryan, this is something that we could potentially do by developing an app for the controller.

Why is it a requirement that they be on the image?

It’s a requirement for one of the services I perform. Pics have to be in landscape orientation and have time and date stamp on the picture.

What about a rental? Would you rent one of these out for a few hundred a month to allow you to take on low headroom inspections?

How bad are your crawlspaces?
Indy

Here in Colorado, but also Wyoming and Montana, we are one of the best places in the country to be in this biz. Our crawlspaces are usually spacious compared to what I’ve seen in places like Texas and southern California. I am rarely on my belly. No scorpions, a rare brown recluse, and only the occasional rattlesnake (I have only seen one dead one). Definitely have black widows, but those are annoying. Not much mold or nasty critters. Termites are rare, but we have plenty of dry rot. We are low rainfall and crawlspaces are rarely wet.

But we have loads of ordinary spiders and I see crawlspaces that have not been visited in many years. It can have curtains of webs. I typically find a tree or shrub branch and tunnel my way through the webbing. Recently I loaded up so many webs on my branch that it broke. Then I just pushed my way through the rest of the crawlspace.

Many years ago, in San Diego, I watched an inspector emerge from a crawlspace covered head to toe in mud and webs. I saluted him and said that I would disclaim that crawlspace.
