AAV Placement in Kitchen

Doing a new build inspection and came across this setup in the kitchen. I know AAVs are acceptable in Texas, but my question specifically is about its placement. I thought they had to be above the drain connection point to help provide adequate air flow and avoid potential backup overflows.

Going from memory, I believe the AAV inlet must be positioned at least 4 inches above the horizontal drain pipe it serves. @mwilles will be along to help.

You are correct. there’s nothing wrong with the installation method used under the sink in this photograph.

It is. The AAV is venting the P-trap.
