Any Recommendations for Digital cameras for inspections?

Any Recommendations for Digital cameras for inspections? I’m in the market for a digital camera and want to make sure i don’t get something useless, nor overspend on something that isn’t needed?

I like Canon models. I use SX 620 for my camera pole and SX 720 for side carry. I had an SX360 years ago that got me started on Canon. There are a TON of threads on this, click on these links.

BTW… My recent online searches for digital cameras have been frustrating. As noted by another member in a similar thread, great deals on cameras may be found at local pawn shops.

For whatever the reasons, the middle priced digital point and shoot cameras are being phased out or are discontinued. Which is frustrating because I need them.

My favorite was/is the Cannon Powershot sx740. Mostly because of the 40x optical zoom ability. Amazon.com : Canon PowerShot SX740 HS Camera with 40x Optical Zoom and 20.3 Megapixel CMOS Sensor (International Model, Black) : Electronics

I bought 3 or 4 in the $400-600 range. Now they want over $800 new and that’s if you can find it. I go through about 1-3 cameras per year. They get damaged, worn, or dust under the lens. I really need to pull the trigger and get a new one, it’s time. I’ve researched this a little bit and will post if I find something. I may just end up swallowing the pill and drop the $800.

There are a few reasons I use digital point and shoot cameras.

#1 I’m not taking my $1200 phone under a crawlspace laying on my back with 18 inches head clearance from the ground and God knows what is flying around in the air to snap an inferior pic.
#2. If I drop a camera, its not my $1200 phone.
#3. These pocket cameras fit in my pocket. They are easy to grab, hold, set down, etc.
#4. They have better optical zoom abilities. Ideally, I like the 20x-40x optical zoom cameras. They work best for commercial jobs. Often there is systems, components, or equipment that is located very high or far away. However, a 5x-15 optical zoom will work for most residential.

Another favorite manuacture and brand of mine was the Sony Cybershot. There is diffreent model types. Here is a link to a refurbished one Don’t Leave Yet, Wait!

An Iphone ## Pro Max (the most recent version you can afford) with an Otterbox Defender Series case and holster is what I recommend.

I concur, Ray. Mid priced digital point and shoot cameras, commonly referred to as bridge cameras, are being phased out or are discontinued.
Bridge cameras are a worthy choice for photographers who want a zoom range that would otherwise require carrying several lenses along with an SLR.

Great bridge Camera. Canon PowerShot SX740 HS. Now about $700.00.
I use a Sony DSC-H400 Digital Camera with 63x Optical Zoom. Bloody crazy zoom and image quality. I paid $400.00 plus tax. Now discontinued.

If I was the OP I would purchase a KODAK PIXPRO AZ405-BK 20MP Digital Camera 40X Optical Zoom 24mm Wide Angle Lens Optical Image Stabilization 1080P Full HD. 20MP will give a quality image. 40X zoom is incredible. Truly. All for under $300.00 dollars.

As well, a cell phone camera is handy when needed.
Just my 2 cents.

Agree completely, I’ve been using a Sony DSCH-90 since about 2012, find them used (such as Ebay) and they last (on average) about 1 year. Our job is murder on cameras, but I want a good optical zoom and a predictable outcome when I compose a shot.

(Bonus, after using the same model for so long, you can manipulate the controls and settings blindfolded)

The average person now uses their phone for their camera needs.
What are being sold now, are for Children, TikTokker’s, Podcasters, and professional Photographers (and wannabe’s)!
That mid-range user has destroyed their own market for product.
