I recently did an inspection at a newer home that had in the basement the standard sewer clean out but about 8 feet away frm that there was a 6 inch PVC going straight down. It had a cap screwed on it about 18 inches below the floor level. There was about an inch of water over that cap. At the top of the pipe there was a rermovable cap.

Does anyome know what that is?

I can’t remember seeing 6" PVC in residential and am having a hard time visualizing your description…sorry.

If you found a cap at both ends, it’s obviously not being used.

Sounds like a waste line was moved.
