Hello Guys, Observed a post 6X6 for the front porch not fully resting on a concrete stairway. Would you guys report something like this for a brand-new house?
I’m not seeing the pictures on my end.
Hello Kevin, Can you see them now?
Yes, I can.
That doesn’t look like it’s finished yet, they will most likely wrap it.
But at a minimum it should have a post base attached.
Thank You Kevin
^^^^^ That.
^^^^ and again!
Possible chance it’s not load bearing, as it is likely attached to trusses at the top.
That would be unusual as the builder usually won’t waste a 6x6 if it isn’t, but will fabricate a faux post out of 1x6 lumber.
Yes report, because the new post – load bearing or not, wrapped or not, will rot out with the end grain of the base on the concrete like that. The end should be treated, and a proper post base used per prior posts.
Agreed may not be load bearing. Those appear to be precast steps as well. Unless specifically designed for an additional load, they will not support any load they were not designed for.
We do not know if that is load-bearing or not. That determination is beyond the scope of a general home inspection. Excellent points are made above. I would mention each of those and my concerns with the load path. That post is either leaning or bevel cut at the base which compounds the issue.
