Not sure how to ask this question.

say a deck comes 10 feet off the back of the house and is 11 feet wide. its a second story deck with 2x8 joist. Along the back side (furthest from house) of the deck there are 3 metal poles offering the support. my question is this. How far can you you extend the deck with out adding more support if additional 2x8 joist were add on the outside starting from the house and running as one peice and bolted in?

Welcome to the boards. Your question contains too many variables. Hate to say it, but you're going to need the services of a specialist, such as an engineer to calculate loads. There will be a lot more required than just extending joists. Don't even attempt such a change without professional help, otherwise you could have a situtatiion that happened in Chicago awhile back with it collapsing and killing a few people.
