Dumbest thing ever: Trump just proved that he is clueless about tariffs

Trump correctly states that the purpose of tariffs is to cause the prices of foreign-made products to go up so that Americans buy more American-made products.

But then Trump warned Walmart that they better not raise prices on foreign-made products to pay for his tariffs.

Huh? That was why you adopted tariffs… to cause prices to go up. Now you say you don’t want prices to go up. Make up your mind!

If Walmart “eats the tariffs” the prices on the foreign-made products won’t go up and Americans will keep buying those foreign-made products.

Bro, think it out, will ya?

I love Trump, but he might know less about tariffs than anyone on earth.

Your infatuation has blinded you.

Show me where he’s ever said that. He’s always portrayed tariffs as a tax on foreign governments that would “bring in” trillions. He’s never understood that the “trillions” was a cost of goods sold for US importers that would be passed on to consumers.

Remember when he said that we’d all be rich due to the Stupid Trump tariffs?

But then again, this is the same imbecile that said he was going to build a wall along the southern border from sea to shining sea, and that Mexico was going to pay for it. And what’s worse is the fact that people actually believed him. :man_facepalming:

Fact of the matter is that tariffs aren’t the only thing Trump is clueless about.

Exactly!! Walmart answers to their shareholders, not Dee-Jay. Eating the tariffs would be less profitable and affect their stocks.

Maybe his supporters should add “I love Trump, but he doesn’t know anything about stocks” to their growing list of lover spats.

Here we go again. More tariff flip-flopping and uncertainty thrust on American Businesses.

He keeps saying that tariffs will bring back manufacturing. Connect the dots. They bring back manufacturing because U.S. manufacturers would be able to compete with Chinese products because the price of Chinese products would be higher due to the tariffs.

I agree.

So why tell Walmart to keep the prices on Chinese products down? That’s defeating the purpose.

No, it’s another Chess move that the average person has no clue about.
It wasn’t that long ago that Walmarts ‘claim to fame’ was Low Prices and 100% USA made products.
They’ve been slowly introducing Chinese, (etc.) made products, primarily clothing, children’s toys, household products, and now grocerys!
This move by Trump is telling “The Walton Family” to cut their BS games being played, and get back to Sam’s original Mission! Considering they are the richest family in America… they can afford to do the right thing!!
Funny… you never hear the Dems going after their money!

You’ve connected the dots; I’ve connected the dots. He does not have the capacity to connect the dots. I’m in 100% agreement with you, he knows less about tariffs than anyone on earth.

Loving Trump would be like being in an abusive relationship. You know, the one where the abused wife says things to rationalize the abuse, like; “he’s normal most of the time,” “he loves me even though he abuses me,” or, “other people just don’t understand him, because he’s playing chess, and they don’t know chess.”

I could hear Melania saying this…Then maybe not…

I don’t agree. I love Trump, but he consistently reveals that he doesn’t understand economics. It’s just not his thing. Especially, macro, world economics. He tries to apply his business experience to it and believes that since the U.S. is the customer, the customer has leverage. It’s not true. Any idiot can consume. And there are billions of consumers who want the stuff we are making difficult to bring into the U.S.

For those of us who didn’t vote for him…we’ve already known this. :winking_face_with_tongue:

Let me explain it this way. I was running some lumber on edge through a jointer. I would then put the jointed side on the fence of my table saw and rip the other edge. My welder was watching this and finally spoke up. He asked “Why don’t you just run both edges through the jointer to make them straight?” I had to explain that doing so would make both edges straight, but not parallel.

Now the reason he didn’t know that is that he works in a different world. The steel bars he orders come with sides that are already parallel.

It’s not his fault. And it’s not Trump’s fault that his experience in business is of no help to him with world economics. It’s not the world he worked in. Trump is like an awesome welder in a wood shop.

I agree, he’s way out of his depth when it comes to anything related to the economy, or for that matter, how to run a government.

I say we fire him from the wood shop and send him back to being a welder/failed reality tv star. :grinning:

People are talking about Trump as if any of his predecessors had a clue. Even when the economy improves, they act like it doesn’t.

We’ll see, eh?
