E&O Insurance

I am currently in the process of getting E&O insurance for a home inspection business that I am forming with a partner. Both my partner and I have a combined 30+ years in the engineering and construction business. We are both registered engineers and received home inspection training from ITA. I am registered in eight states and my partner is registered in one. We are having difficulty getting someone to quote us E&O insurance. After a month of effort we have received only two quotes!

Why is E&O for home inspectors so difficult to get. I can get E&O insurance to work in chemical plants easier than residential homes.

The only two companies that I know about, that will legitimately supply E & O Insurance are the following…

http://www.orep.org/

http://www.frea.com/

Email them and ask for quotes. Good luck to you and your partner starting out in Alabama.

By the way, when do you plan on becoming a member of NACHI?

Why not make your company a consulting firm that does home inspections.

I would think it would be easy to get E&O for your field of expertise (registered engineers).

Example: As an electrical contractor I am required to carry insurance. If I inspect your electrical systems I am with my field and not required to carry additional insurance, IE E&O.

Understand my point?

Mike, I would like to know you Ins. agent. As I am a general contractor and required to carry the largest amount of coverage on any job I run, my insurance man would not insure any HI work I do without a separate E&O policy. So I guess when ever in dought call your agent first and get the facts, always C.Y.A. or you may not have any assets left.
