Nick good article, however, perhaps this should have a caveat that the code requirements can vary. Most Canadian codes do not require a fire separation between the the common wall seperating an attached garage and the house.

Maybe you should add fire stops are needed at chimney openings through floors etc.

Two story homes and basement homes between the floors.

Fire stops are also needed at gas log fireplace inserts.

Some homes have interior soffits such as above kitchen cabinets that require fire stops.

I am sure there are other areas I haven’t thought of.

Claude - Can you show me some code that verifies that? When you do, I’ll make a correction.
