Do you have a link to what’s required in CA for gas?
I don’t have any links, only the code books. Do you have a specific question?
The gas line is bottle necked. The appliance should have full size from the female on the input to the WH to the gas line.
Most gas suppliers want a drip leg before the flexible connection and most don’t want soft copper. When the line is looped (as in your picture) the dirt leg is created at the bottom of the loop.
Just trying to figure out what the listed, flexible appliance connector (copper) for gas in CA looks like.
Different AHJ in CA actually all over US have different approved connections. This is just one.
Looks like CSST - seen that, never seen the copper.
Don’t have any pics of copper only and the one that I do have is a copper over stainless and that doesn’t carry the approval stamps for CA. Your also have to pay attention to the length, most jurisdictions approve these flex connectors for only limited lengths.
Here is a link that* might* help…

DING DING DING!
I think a light bulb went off in my head.
- The supply may be copper (if gas co approves)
- The “listed, flexible appliance connector” you’ve referenced is not necessarily copper.
How am I doing so far?
If the above two statements are correct, my confusion was in thinking you meant the “listed, flexible appliance connector” was also copper.
My question is, Is there such a listed, flexible appliance connector that is indeed copper?
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a copper appliance connector, listed for use with NG. I’ve seen brass, but most are stainless steel.
The copper-flex you posted is typically listed for water only.
Sorry for the delayed responses. I’m working today and posting between inspections.
Now I do get it - Before, I thought you were saying there was a copper appliance connector for NG. That was my confusion.
I see CSST whips all the time here - mostly stoves or dryers. WH are usually rigid black pipe.
Understood. Was trying to find the mysterious coppper gas flex (which I now know dosen’t exist) that I mistakenly thought you referenced earlier.
Between, very nice.
For me it’s before or after so far
