Florida inspection legislation to watch

I’m curious as to what this means.

–>>8 Hours specifically dedicated to
–>>▪ Report writing (Practical Component)

Not that I have any real issues with conformity of reports, I’m just curious what this would accomplish.

I’m also ok with the E&O change as long as the requirements are reasonable. Seems like that requirement ought to scale. Someone inspecting 5 million plus homes should probably pay more than the guy inspecting roach homes in the slums.

Thank you for the latest on bills affecting us. I am a new member and currently taking course work required. On the interNachi website it offers 2 options for Florida Certification: 120 hours of online course work or 80 hours of class plus 40 hours offline. Is that “offline” course work the face to face modules from the “house of horrors” or something else?

Hi John,

Welcome to InterNACHI! Regarding your question about Florida pre-licensing and the “offline” work - you are correct in thinking that the 40 hours of offline work can be completed at the Westin House of Horrors. It’s a 5-day training and does require additional cost; while the 120 hours online is completely free and included in your membership. The two options are for different learners - many people feel much more confident after completing an in-person portion of their training, but an equal number will speed run through training to get their license and then go on ride-alongs with another inspector to gain hands on experience.

This new hourly requirement is for new inspectors not current license holders correct ? Still the same amount of CE hours every 2 years for us ?

Except if you’ve had a license for 10 years, then you are exempt from CE.
