See if I’m understanding this any better. You can use a three wire fed if there is no metallic connection between the building but if there is it needs to be a four wire feed. Now if it was a three wire fed to begin with and things were fine and the connection was made later there nothing the electrician can do except recommend adding the forth wire.

You got it Larry. Just remember that if you only run three wires, you must bond nuetral to ground at the seperate buildings panel, otherwise ground faults will have nowhere to go. icon_smile.gif
