Gas water heater drip leg

hi guys! get thru the AZ license smooth and have a question of my own homes…

should the shut off be before the drip get? or is this correct? thx!!

I don’t see a drip leg, that is a shutoff valve

You can’t have a valve at the end of a drip leg instead of a cap?

It’s a valve with a plug in it. It’s no different than a cap. I’d move on. It’s not the right way but it’s also not completely wrong.

The only real concern I have (if any) would be that ancient shutoff valve after the Drip-Leg and before the Appliance Connector (where it should be).
IMO, the (operational) valve should be replaced for safety reasons as they tend to leak when they get that old due to poor design and wear. While a qualified Plumber is repairing that, he/she should just go all out and do it all.

THAT is what I was asking I think… I mean I know its fine but for the purpose of me learning at the moment and I happen to notice it in my home. thx!

It serves the purpose of a drip leg. Unless someone can come up with a code violation as Martin stated just move on.

Not to mention that some municipalities are not requiring drip/sediment traps at all. Like Martin, smile and move on.
