Gate latch height?

Let's break it down(Jerry did some already). The latch should be at a certain minimum height. Otherwise a small child can unlatch it and get to the pool(forget code, this is obvious). Assume the latch hardware works as designed. If it is BELOW the minimum height it is UNSAFE, no matter if it

It may be working and locking like it is supposed to, but if it is 2 feet off the ground, it is unsafe.

And I don't think he is uggesting you be a code inspector. But you should have some basic knowledge of them for reasons like this. Codes are designed usually as a result of past tragedy and accidents. So someone recognized that kids were drowning because they were getting into pools that had latches too low. You may not need to know offhand the exact height. But you should recognize the problem the code is addressing and be able to recognize obvious cases.
