HE furnace concentric vent & intake miss

Just when you think you’ve seen it all.

Inspected a 5 YO house today, ranch on a slab.

The installer missed a couple of times. The vent and fresh air intake ran up and through the attic under 15 inches of insulation to a concentric vent going out the side of the gable.

The installer installed the vent into the intake side, and the intake was not even attached to the concentric vent, but if it was, it would have been installed where the vent was supposed to go. I’m guessing it’s been this way for the 5 year life of the house.

The only way I found it was the wind had blown through the vent and blew back the insulation enough to where I could see the end of the pipe and daylight shining through. I’m glad I found it and I’m glad it was a sunny day.

Steam blowing out of the intake.
