I chose the image of single ply roll roofing. Roll roofing starts with roof sheathing that should run perpendicular to roof trusses. The side laps of adjacent rows should be staggered. There should also be at least a 3" overlapp at the edges/side. Lastly, seams should be hot mopped or torched down.
The age of your roof is usually the major factor in determining when to replace it. Most roofs last many years, if properly installed, and often can be repaired rather than replaced. An isolated leak usually can be repaired. The average life expectancy of a typical residential roof is 15 to 20 years. Water damage to a homes interior or overhangs is commonly caused by leaks from a single weathered portion of the roof, poorly installed flashing, or from around chimneys and skylights. These problems do not necessarily mean you need a new roof.
Thirty-pound felt is more resistant to damage during installation of the roof-covering material, and will protect the roof longer if it should somehow become exposed to weather. The difference is obvious, once you see them together. Thirty-pound felt is much thicker and stiffer.
roof inspection; Ash fault shingles in good condition. No visual evidence of any repairs. roof jack’s seem to be installed correctly they do show some evidence of wear. Rain guards installed at gutters. They do show evidence of some debris at roof valley’s
Master roof inspections #3 although asphalt or composition shingles may look alike there is a big difference in the way they are manufactured. There is a difference in the type of crude oil and a difference in the amount of filler used. the amount of asphalt used and the formula’s each manufacture use’s is propitiatory
Roof Vent
As you can see from the picture this writing assignment is on roof venting. This picture is of a roof vent. As you can see in the picture this roof vent is very old and the boot around the vent is cracked and brittle. This should be inspected and repaired by a professional roofer.
Roof Photography
This essay is on Roof Photography. The article that I read states how important photography has become in inspection reports. Most all reports no have photos attached to the report. One of the important thing to note on photography is what kind of camera to use. The article really recommends using a digital camera with flash, zoom lens. This will really help in the quality of photos you use and share with your customer.
This roof has been recovered several times, only half at a time. The old layers were left on and the new just rolled on top. There was a lot of organic debris on the roof, and even some larger limbs that had left an impact mark. There is a wrinkle in the top most layer of roll roofing.
This is a picture of a chimney. Prior to this home going on the market, the exterior was re-stuccoed.You can see in this picture that it was not done correctly and very messy. I was unable to determine if there was any flashing installed as the area was covered in black sealant which is only a temporary fix.
Article used:https://www.nachi.org/cool-roofs.htm
This article was on “cool roofs”. Cool Roofs are a type of roof covering that reflects sunlight and reduces thermal emittance. This is an excellent idea on many levels. First it reduces that amount of heat that the building collects from the sun making the home cooler in the summer. This can then cut down on the amount of energy used for the AC system.

A second layer of roof covering.
There is a second layer of roof covering (a four tap) installed over an old layer of roof covering (a three tap). This practice could avoid the manufacture warranty and make the new covering weak for impacts.
Edge Flashings.
The edge flashing, also known as drip flashing helps to avoid water damaged wood at the fasciaboards and roof decking. The drip flashing has to be installed underneath the underlayment at the edges. The drip edge flashing must be fastened to the roof deck at at every 12 inches maximum.
downspout showed is a bad termination, the downspout should be terminated at ground level it be terminated at least 6 feet away from the house. the picture is showing termination on the gutters, this will cause gutters overflowing and is a potential water penetration.
There a multiple types of underlayment, and they each have their purpose. Most houses have asphalt saturated felt under the roof covering, but in the near future, we will see more synthetic underlayment. This is due to it coming from a crude oil refining by-product, and methods have been improved so there is less leftover by-product
Shingles Poor Condition
This picture shows a roof with shingles that have passed their useful life. Many shingles were damaged, some were missing, some were curling and others were cracking. Fasteners were visible in a number of places. Because of the deterioration that has already taken place already, the current roof covering will need to be removed prior to a new roof covering being installed.
wood siding is one of the most poplar material used today, it can be found in homes all over the world. there are many types of it like; clapboard, plywood, solid lumber, and hardboard. the most important disadvantages it require more maintenance, painting …
I learned a lot about roofing and how many layers should be on the roof, I also learned that it is not required to walk on a roof to inspect any kind of roofing, but it is usually good to inspect the roof.
Demonstration of Learning Essay:
Studied Article by Nick Gromicko, Jim Troth and Kate Tarasenko
Title of Article: A Letter Explaining Your InterNACHI Home Inspector Certification
This article actually helped satisfy a question I had stuffed in the back of mind from the first day I looked into this endeavor of becoming a certified roof inspector, via your training program How does one know everyone they approach for work will recognize and accept this particular certification? The answer is, YOU DONT.
What you do know, as a member and certified roof inspector through InterNACHI, is plenty of reasons why anyone requiring the services of a certified professional inspector for any industry requiring them, should feel confident and at-ease when they find themselves working with an associate from our stellar international network of professionals.
A few facts for the back pocket:
1. 1,400 accreditations by state and governmental agencies throughout North America.
2. InterNACHI is the world’s largest nonprofit association of residential and commercial property inspectors.
3. Associates must abide by a strict Code of Ethics, and take accredited Continuing Education courses each
year in order to maintain their membership in good standing.
The roof covering is old, and the life of covering has expired. The covering does need to be replaced. There are areas on the back corner where the shingles are completely deteriorated and missing. I recommend having the roof replaced by a licensed roofing contractor.
