Welcome Gary! Everything so far is good advice.
My suggestions is to consistently spend time browsing the message boards. The boards are like 30 classes all running at the same time and they never end. And they’re interactive! You don’t get continuing education credit for browsing, but you can learn an awful lot about this business from a practical point of view and about things that classes don’t cover, but that are important.
ISN does it all to include tracking your numbers.
Greetings Gary, good to see another member from the fine State of Maryland!
Just curious, what made you decide to become an HI and what is your background?
Tom
Welcome Gary. Good luck.
Hi Tom, I decided to become a home inspector when my wife got pregnant (this past January) to do a little work on the side since she will no longer be working when the kid arrives. My background is commercial inspections for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. I am a Professional Engineer (mechanical) but do not plan on offering any other services but home inspections. I work full time so I will need to try to squeeze home inspections in over the weekend.
Sounds you have a great background for being an HI!
And congrats the upcoming arrival!
Thanks, glad to meet another Maryland HI! I truly think Baltimore is out of my range and will mainly be trying to stick to the Metro area. My goal is really only one home inspection per weekend, two would be OK as well but I know just starting out will be sort of a slow process.
Excellent background for this business, Gary. Don’t make your own mistakes. Find out on these boards what works and learn from other people’s mistakes.
I am an inspector for the gadgets and its technology. I am a new member here. I want to enhance my skills and want to share my work and new ideas.
Hi i am from China.
