Is mold testing even necessary?

I’ve seen the source of the quote and can only comment that, in my observation, that person has had a tendency to denigrate others who do not have the same forensic background as the author.
If you don’t recommend that the client have testing done, your ***** is hanging way out in a 40 below breeze.
IMO.

There is a new test available to InterNACHI members that actually identifies mold from its DNA, not just by visual or microscopic identification. The Indoor Allergens and Mold Test kit is available through a new relationship between InterNACHI, and National Jewish Health, the number one respiratory hospital in the U.S. since 1998. The Family Air Care® Indoor Allergens and Mold Test Kit was designed to be an easy way to survey a customer’s home for the key allergens including mold that impact their respiratory health.

Jeffrey, I’m not clear about the per-sample or per-home pricing; can this be re-phrased in whole sentences, please, or otherwise expanded upon?:

Sampling Units (6) Deposits for sampling units and information brochures for six homes. Pay deposits for 5 units receive 6. A separate additional charge is required for completion of the laboratory analysis for each sample.

Thanks!

"Sampling for mold should be conducted by professionals who have specific experience in designing mold sampling protocols, sampling methods, and interpreting results." EPA
I’ve always liked that statement but then we don’t use Pro-Lab or BTS.

It’s wise to remember:

Mold inspection companies should have mold E&O insurance. (2 types E&O)

  • Microbiological Assessments coverage for pre cleanup. (Mold inspection)
  • Consulting on Microbiological Decontamination project covers CLEARANCE testing / inspection.

A few home inspectors in south Florida do a really good job on mold inspections; many are just taking money from the uninformed public.
Probably the same everywhere but it sure makes the business look bad in the eyes of the public. Get the training and more training and more training and just do it right
You can’t take 4 hours of training and be a home inspector.
You shouldn’t expect to take 4 hours of mold training and 4 hours of marketing and be a mold inspector.
You can talk mold testing-inspections to death why not work on the training and get to it. It is a profitable business

Mold testing is not necessary. Removing the source of moisture is necessary.

What the heck is “Mold Toxification”???

I agree Mr. Wall. There are so many ways mold inspections can be performed that if someone goes into it without training or the appropriate training then the purpose of the inspection may be missed or incomplete; the need of an inspection missed. This type of service does nothing for the integrity of our industry today with the people out there that really need this service.

Mold Toxification is toxic effects from mold.

I think we already debated the subject about mold testing. The conversation some how ended when space aliens died from mold or something like that. I do not wish to revist this subject with you. I hope you understand.

I can’t find mold toxification in any literature anywhere. Did you just make it up?

There was mold, hair like in the kitchen sink base cabinet of a home I inspected a couple weeks ago—the buyers were concerned, until I took my index finger, wiped the mold, and ate it…I swear to God…and I also snorted some…freaked them out, but they bought the house and fixed the water source, sink swivel leaking in the base cabinet.

I said would you like me to call my Mold Inspector to take tests?

They said no thank you—

Plz, don’t make me laugh, it’s been a LONG Day

James, what is Toxic Mold?..I hope I didn’t eat or snort any a couple weeks ago during an inspection, I feel fine…would you post a link to Toxic Mold—

thanks

When I went to New Orleans and inspected for Parr, I entered one home that had part of the Roof blown off, the people did not tell me until it was too late, but I went into a back bedroom that was covered in mold, took my breath before I could close the door. Anyway, the next morning I woke up suffocating, if I had not had my breathing treatment machine, I don’t think I would be here now. It was nasty! Don’t take Mold lightly.

Depends on the amount present I guess, a little hairy mold in a cabinet actually tastes half way decent…!!

Read this gentleman’s entire website, some folks may learn something—!!

Caoimhín P. Connell
Forensic Industrial Hygienist
www.forensic-applications.com

Now here, we are referring to an actual PROFESSIONAL…!!

That’s the link I posted in my original post. I caught a little heat from it though.

Who gives a Damn Vince, your dealing with folks who do not know any better, if everyone read: Caoimhín P. Connell
Forensic Industrial Hygienist
www.forensic-applications.com

Read it five, ten times if its HARD to understand—

By those that have been told they are IAQ professionals by taking minimal courses here and sending samples to Pro-Lab which helps INACHI which helps Nickey who encourages HI’s to send samples to Pro-Lab…and isn’t Peter Tafeen’s brother-in-law or something the owner/major shareholder in Pro-Lab which owns Correct Filters which makes exaggerated claims about the efficiency of the filters(of course, Peter Tafeen was promoting them!)…and it probably goes on and on and on…“what don’t we know” is what I wonder about.

Oh! What a tangled web we weave!!

No, you need to look in actual mold or medical industry publications, not in a Prolab brochure.

Yes, in most cases a small amount of mold is nothing to worry about, it depends on the persons and if the environmental conditions still do not exist that created the mold.
A normal person can consume small amounts of mold, tasting mold is a way you can determine if it is mold, I always taste mold if it is a just a small spot. A large area is a no brainier, but if you want to lick the whole way, knock yourself out.

I have debated with this so-called mold expert several times on this message board.
First, this guy has no moral character. He has admitted on this very message board that he makes his living suing mold inspectors for large companies who are merely trying to protect their clients. He admits for working for large companies when occupants of their mold infested buildings file a lawsuit because of a death or disabilities. He gloats in the fact of his shallow victories while the helpless even suffer more because of a victory in court.
Secondly, he admits in not having an formal training in mold. In fact he would not denied my claim from my Industrial Hygienist, who teaches mold in college to other industrial hygienists, that industrial hygienist only have about eight hours of mold training.
Anybody can put together a website and call themselves an expert in mold. But being a true expert such as my Industrial Hygienist is different.
Smart people cannot be led by a fool, only fools can be led by foolish person.
