Is there a problem using a gate valve for a gas line?

In my area (Ohio) I’ve never seen a valve as the one in the original post on a gas meter. Only the one at the street and the one at the gas meter like the one in your picture. Thanks again.

The image in your pic is a ball valve, although I suspect that has been pointed out by members all ready.
The valve handle orientation in your pic is in the off position, or should be. The handle is perpendicular the pipe. The handle should have marking/label identifying accepted liquids and/or gases the valve can be used with.
Note hardware corrosion, nut and stem. As well poor handle thrust washer stop orientation.
Hope that helps.
