This is a picture of a telescoping ladder. If you look closely near the siderails next to each rung, you should see small green dots where the locking pins are located. According to the directions for proper use, the ladder is safe to climb if the green dots next to both side rails are visible when in the extended position. The ladder shown may be defective. You can only see the green dots on the left side, not the right side. The green has faded away, probably due to age and may be considered for replacement.
I was reading an article on ladder safety. I passed the general safety course, but missed some questions on ladder safety. I was surprised to learn that most construction deaths occurred from falls of 10-feet or less from falling off ladders.

A ladder should never be stood on at the top two steps now should a ladder be used is not tall enough and needs additional support to reach a certain height.

Picture shows how NOT to use a ladder to access a roof. The incorrect ladder is being used. The picture shows a step ladder being used where an extension ladder should be used. The ladder does not reach to eave, so the top, or cap, of the ladder had to be stepped on to reach the roof. There is nothing to support the person after improperly stepping on the cap of the step ladder to get to the roof. Not that it would help in this instance; however, no ties or safety harness was used. Wouldn’t want to be the guy coming down with this setup after getting up there.

Ive read and been part of developing many mission statements for a variety of entities, from government, non-profit and private. This means Ive seen and created a few. Throughout the process or researching, editing, or creating, it always struck me how mundane most mission statements were. This left me with the feeling that there was no real value in having such an instrument.
This article covered the subject in detail while being concise (without going into needless detail that would detract from the learning opportunity offered.) It lays out what a good mission statement should contain while offering explanations on how to accomplish writing your own mission statement tailored to your company.
I especially liked how it left me with the understanding that a mission statement should not be a boilerplate blurb or paragraph. A successful (or useful) mission statement should be personal, about you and your company after all, you are your company. So, ultimately, I had a light bulb moment after reading and considering this article.
