Lattice in front of decks & porches

Since I am still a newbie, short of trying to peek through the lattice holes, how do I check the joists & joist hangers for a deck or porch that has lattice around all the openings. Does anyone take the lattice off, or do I just note inaccessible because I don’t want to replace the lattice if I break it.

A Sawzall, pick-bar and a sledge hammer allow access to any part of the home. But seriously, after carefully checking to verify they did not leave a loose section or hinged section, I do not take them apart for the same reason you are concerned, breaking it. You can also try digging a tunnel underneath it.

Dave,

Mr Hagarty is giving you some good advice. You should always report anything that is not accessible and the reason it is not should be noted on the report.

Good reply Mr. Hagarty.
