Are holes allowed in a ledger board for a deck? or does this follow the same rule as for holes and knotches in floor joists? I came across a ledger board yesterday where it had been cut to allow for a dryer vent to exhaust through it. Aside from the fact that a potential fire hazard had been created from the hole being screened and then completely blocked with inches of lint, I want to address the hole issue
As long as the ledger board is properly fastened, aka… bolts on both sides of the hole, I have no problem with it. That is assuming the deck joist is not located above the hole. If it is, bad deal.
