Is there any rule on how long a dryer vent can be.
Here is the deal. The dryer is vented to the exterior but the way it gets there is by a 17' long plastic vent secured to the wall.

I believe that the standard is 25’ of piping with each elbow deduct 5’ because of air flow restrictions.

25’ maximum not to include the transition duct. Take off 2.5’ for each 45 deg .elbow, 5’ for each 90 deg elbow.
Longer runs are ok if manufacturer's installation instructions so indicate.

If the area in question has adopted either the IRC or UMC, then the duct must be metal, and no longer than 8 feet for IRC (2000 IRC 1501.1) or 6 feet for UMC (2000 UMC 504.3.2.1).
