Lighting requirements in closets, front entrance, and at the garage.

I vaguely remember that lighting may be required outside in some instances for safety reasons. This purchased as a new built home around March has no light at the front door, kitchen pantry, or the storage closet that goes under the stairs. These were on his “list of concerns”. I always ask “What are your concerns”.

Any ideas about an official standard? Seems a walkway may need it if the walkway is above grade, that sort of thing I remember. The front door, pantry, and storage closet just seem like common sense. They keep a flashlight in the kitchen to use in the pantry.

The NEC requires illumination at exterior doors. The other areas do not require lighting and/or may not have the clearance for lights.

Thanks Jim!
