Just sharing something you may see in an attic:
The vendor of the wall furnace installed below the picture specifies fire blocking above the furnace. Unfortunately, the vendor supplies the fire block as an extra cost part, and the crews don’t seem to bother:
This image was from a building that had a previous fire.
I know the local City inspectors check for fire blocking pretty intently, so likely it was a no-permit job.
