This is a photograph of schedule 40 PVC pipe. There is also a photograph from the video of the pipe that was inspected. This does not appear to be scheduled 30 PVC pipe in the video.
Gotta agree with Martin on this.
Looks like schedule 40 ends of pipe in both pictures.
Point taken, I’ll shut up now. Have a great 3-day weekend y’all
I worked as a drain technician for our local Roto Rooter franchise. That’s a big commission to “sell” a dig at $250/ft.
But the expert said “It needs to be replaced as fast as humanly possible”. How can this be?
Not sure what your problem is, never said I was an expert and it appears you want someone to stroke your impressive 38 year career experience. I’ve already conceded. Focus your efforts on something else, you’ve made your point
My problem is telling a home inspector they need to have a drain “Replaced as fast as humanly possible” when there “appears” to be nothing wrong with the pipe.
It’s advice that can get a business in some legal hot water very quickly.
The advice was given under the assumption you were an expert because you were an estimator for a chain service company.
You failed to identify any material defect with the pipe such as a crack or crushed pipe. You wrongly “guessed” at the schedule of the pipe which is impossible to identify from the interior.
Had the OP taken your advice and recommended the pipe be replaced and it was found in satisfactory condition. The home inspector would be on the hook for an awfully big lawsuit.
As I said, point taken. Let it go. Have a great day!
My thoughts: 1) the pipe has not failed and is still performing its function, 2) it looks to have perhaps sustained some slight damage that could have been due to a temporary condition that no longer exists and unlikely to return, 3) there is no cause to believe that the pipe will prematurely fail, even with the damage, 4) the consequences of failure (sewage leaking into the ground) are likely to be small, 5) digging up an replacing / repairing the pipe based upon the above is not justified, and 6) the plumber was trying to take more of your money.
