nice to see you posting over here, yes you are correct, but I was not going to muddy the waters over the 5 feet issue until I got to explain the answer tomorrow, however you are correct that floor space can be calculated based on a ceiling height of 5 ft when there is a sloped ceiling.

As Richard quite rightly stated, there are a couple of exeptions, and with out going totaly nuts on them, ceiling beams that project <6 inches below the cieling are not normally concidered a reduction in the height, and floor area can be calculated based on a ceiling height as low as 5 feet as long as the higher % of the ceiling is to normal height (as you would find in many attic bedrooms)
