Hello all,

Technically, there are three plausible answers to this question to a 'habitable space'.

1) Pretty straight forward-- answer is:

2) With an exposed beam-- #1 (mine) above is reduced 6"

3) In a sloped room, if greater than 50% of the ceiling height is =#1 (my no. 1) and can't be less than 5' ft.

Question is, what is #1 (mine)? ![icon_wink.gif](upload://ssT9V5t45yjlgXqiFRXL04eXtqw.gif)

Hi Richard,

nice to see you posting over here, yes you are correct, but I was not going to muddy the waters over the 5 feet issue until I got to explain the answer tomorrow, however you are correct that floor space can be calculated based on a ceiling height of 5 ft when there is a sloped ceiling.

Pleased to have your input Richard.

Regards

Gerry

As Richard quite rightly stated, there are a couple of exeptions, and with out going totaly nuts on them, ceiling beams that project <6 inches below the cieling are not normally concidered a reduction in the height, and floor area can be calculated based on a ceiling height as low as 5 feet as long as the higher % of the ceiling is to normal height (as you would find in many attic bedrooms)
